A Quick Review of Last Week’s Market…..

It was a very trying for the stock market last week with several factors occurring……

  • President Donald Trump had a controversial press conference with Russian leader Vladimir Putin,
  • Netflix had a big earnings miss,
  • Several blue-chip earnings helped also helped determine the stock market trajectory,
  • Prime Day website crash for Amazon,
  • Fed Chair Jerome Powell spoke about strong employment which suggests further rate hikes; and President Trump was not pleased with the situation,
  • President Trump threatened tariffs on essentially all imported goods from China,
  • And, also accused the country and the European Union (EU) of currency manipulation.

However, the S&P 500 managed to end the week up 0.03 percent to 2,801.83, its first back-to-back weekly close north of 2,800 since January. The Nasdaq was not so lucky, down 0.09 percent at 7,820.20, while the Dow managed to add 0.2 percent for the week at 25,058.12.

The week before last we saw potential profits of 480.5%. For several weeks before that there were potential returns of 361%, 553%, 629%, 1,064%, 1,736%, and the list goes on…..

As most traders realize, there is a 50/50 chance that the company stock price could go either way after reporting earnings – even if the report is good, the stock price could reverse – and if you hold a call option, means depletion of an already good profit if it exists. A similar situation can be found if you hold a put option, and a report is not that sound (and you expect a profit from this) but the stock price can, at times move upwards due to traders bias or other external conditions......READ MORE.....
