Earnings will be light for the week ahead in the stock market, but high-profile economic data will be at the forefront, with Friday's payrolls report as the highlight -- and there will be plenty of speeches from multiple Federal Reserve officials. Particular attention will be paid to hints of a rate hike by the end of the year. Strong or weak, September's jobs report could sway the debate in regard to the rate hike.

There will be attention drawn to the latest spending standoff on Capitol Hill. Speaker John Boehner’s announcement that he will be resigning could also shake up the stock market if it injects additional uncertainty into congressional efforts to reach a deal on the budget and debt ceiling. This uncertainty could come into play as early as the week ahead in the stock market, as Congress needs to pass a continuing resolution to authorize federal spending at 2015 levels by the end of the month to avert a partial government shutdown – but Boehner’s resignation may make such legislation more likely to pass.

Other bellwether economic indicators due for release next week include: personal income and outlays on Monday; S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index and consumer confidence on Tuesday; motor vehicle sales and the ISM Manufacturing Index on Thursday .....READ MORE.....
