The week ahead in the stock market seems to be set for a breakout after last week’s positioning. The stock market showed resilience and defied the doomsayers’ expectations that the past week would be tough, but due to earnings news and also China lowering its reserve ratio for banks at the start of the week, this has proven false. U.S. stocks surged, with the S&P closing up 1.8 percent for the week at 2117, a new closing high and a fraction short of its all-time intraday high of 2,120.

The week ahead in the stock market will see the Fed meet Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as some important economic reports such as first quarter GDP Wednesday.....
